Canadian faces sexual assault charges after 7 women complain of assaults

A Toronto man is facing multiple sexual assault charges after he was arrested in what police are calling a “disturbing series of sexual assaults” at an Ontario church.

Police arrested Nathaniel Perry on Friday for sexually assaulting several women at the North York United Church on Upper Larnaca Road, Toronto Police Sergeant Ed Dzingala said in a statement.

Mr. Perry, who was taken into custody without incident, is accused of sexually assaulting three women between 2013 and 2016, Mr. Dzingala said.

In total, eight women came forward to Toronto Police with details about the alleged sexual assaults, Mr. Dzingala said. Police said the majority of the women targeted were alone and appeared to be intoxicated at the time.

“It is heartbreaking that these women became the victims of these horrible crimes,” Toronto Police Inspector Pete Trongard said in a statement. “Investigators remain committed to finding others who have been victimized by this man and completing this investigation.”

Mr. Perry, 31, is charged with eight counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Toronto Police are now working with the victims, according to Mr. Dzingala.

The church has since removed the floodlights from the entryways while police investigate the incident. Toronto police said they believe the assaults happened in 2014 and 2015.
