(CNN) — Stephen Curry finished with 28 points and the Golden State Warriors took a 2-0 lead in their NBA Western Conference Finals series against the Portland Trail Blazers with a 99-94 victory at the Moda Center Sunday.

Trailing much of the second half, the Warriors clawed their way back to go ahead for good with 5:20 remaining. Curry hit six three-pointers in the game and trails NBA record holder Ray Allen by one when it comes to the most three-pointers made in a single playoff game. Allen was at 27 in the 2006 Western Conference final.

The two teams will meet again in the third game of the series on Wednesday.

Game 2, which was at stake after the Warriors won 120-101 in Game 1, saw a crowd of 28,415 at the Portland Metro Center go home disappointed. The Trail Blazers took a 52-49 lead into halftime, but their lead was cut to two points by the fourth quarter.

But in crunch time, Curry took his chances, hitting a free throw after a technical foul was called on the Trail Blazers for possession of the ball after a timeout. A layup gave him his 28th point of the game, although the Blazers had come back to tie things up and force a fourth quarter.

Curry’s 15 threes in the playoffs have been an NBA record; LeBron James has 18 three-pointers in the playoffs this year, and Allen, who holds the record, has 19 three-pointers in five playoff games.

Afterward Curry celebrated the feat on social media. “32 days to break the 3PT record and the only 2 teams left are playing!!” he wrote, referring to the Blazers and the Cavaliers, who meet Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Finals series later on Sunday.

The Cavaliers lead that series 1-0.
