A man shot dead outside a meeting to mark the end of the Outlaws motorcycle club chapter in Britain has been named by police as an experienced biker from Nottinghamshire.

The man, who was not named but known to have been in the Outlaws club, was shot at least twice and died from his injuries in hospital in Wakefield on Saturday night.

Jason Macpherson, 51, was also killed in the shooting and the other injured man, a 41-year-old man from Bradford, remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After the attack, the Outlaws in Nottingham issued a statement saying they were “shocked and horrified” and confirming they had expelled two bikers from the group following an “internal investigation”.

A Metropolitan police spokesman said: “Detectives investigating the killing of a man in southern England last night [Saturday night] have made an arrest. A 41-year-old man from Bradford was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a south London police station.”

A Birmingham man was released without charge on Sunday. A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in Birmingham on Thursday and released on bail until July.

The shooting in Macpherson’s home town took place in Aston Gate, the main entrance to the Outlaws’ riding and outfitting business in Nottingham, around 9.45pm on Saturday.

Investigating officer Det Ch Insp Alan Spiers said the attack took place at the business premises. “I would like to appeal to anyone who may have CCTV from the area where this incident took place to come forward and contact us,” he said.

Police are exploring claims the victim was the ringleader of a gang who had tried to steal mopeds in Aston Gate the previous evening.

A Nottinghamshire police spokesman said: “Initially, this was reported as being linked to the car burglary of vehicles overnight on Friday but following his death on Saturday evening, there are suspicions that this man may have been involved in a fight that led to a scuffle at the business premises in order to steal mopeds.

“This incident happened shortly after 8pm, when the man and the other man were leaving a meeting and were speaking to each other.

“They became involved in a physical altercation and there was a shooting. The two other men – a man from Nottingham and a man from Bradford – were then shot at.

“The victim and the two other men were taken to hospital, but sadly the man from Nottingham died and the other man is still in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
